Dear All,

I am Elvis Paul , African based in Edinburgh Uk graduate from  the University of Edinburgh . I have been asked to submit a PHd thesis related to Jatropha, but I know very little about it. For those of you who seem to have expert knowlege on the plant , is there an area about plant that you feel needs more research and analyses? if so please I am open to suggestions.

Thanks

Hi, biggest issues on the plant currently are:
1) Tissue culture - some parties have problems wiht cancerous growths
2) yield improvement - both in terms of seed yields and seed oil yields, important to distinguish between commercial and social projects
3) study of various types or irrigation regimes
optimal row spacing on commercial plantations
4) Further study into pests and other plant diseases
Hope this helps

Hi,

You can add also variety/kind of Jatropha that can grow on cold area like USA..

As far as I know Jatropha Curcas can't survive cold weather.

thanks:D

May i add, jatropha is a hardy shrub that can grow on sandy land. It can survive in harsh climate. During winter it will hibernate and grow leaves and fruit very quickly during spring.
